Okay. This was warm.
Two really really hot days in England.
The forecast was right for this one – a couple of “pretty warm” (for Texas) and “downright scorching” (for England) days were on tap. With all of the recent wedding and jam-packed photo safari days we’d just had, it was an easy agreement to just have a couple of “chill in the Oakleigh House A/C” days!
John had some “remote arrangement” sorting to manage and it turned out to be a good thing I brought my shiny-new Chromebook with me, because I had a work item or two to manage…
Still – having a quiet day or so between the hectic start of the adventure and what would end up being a VERY full upcoming week ended up being exactly what we all needed!
We did have more than a few laughs, even had a really nice classic “afternoon tea”, complete with cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and a tasty treat called a “Battenberg Cake”!
It was dinner the first warm night that was even a better treat. While I am now intimately familiar with Fish Hill and the spectacular views of the Evesham Vale down into Broadway and on clear days – all the way to Wales! What I was not familiar with until this evening was The Fish Hotel – and their amazing restaurant, Hook!
The near-sunset views as we made our way down the hillside on the winding and narrow lane just got better and better, until we arrived in the car park at The Fish. Walking through the lobby towards the Hook dining area, the wonderful aromas and sounds of the open kitchen as we walked past really reminded us that yes – we were more than ready for an excellent seafood dinner.
And we were not disappointed! From the soup to the spectacular fish main course to the perfectly-refreshing desert, everything was exactly what we had wanted.
Above the dining area (with a wonderful outside deck that we passed on this time – still too warm – although you can see John and Marianne still at our table if you look closely!), they have a private “Feasting Deck” that can be reserved for parties or other gatherings that looked like a lot of fun. Maybe another visit.
The second warm “chill day” (ooh… oxymoron!) was similar to the first, except it marked the “Return of Henry” and all the associated activities around that! Fish-and-chips from my familiar Shipston Fish Bar was a wonderful end to the day.
Tomorrow – let’s go back in time a couple of thousand years, shall we?
