Day “zero”: Arrival in London
Kathy and I have decided that it’s time to take the kids to England! So, Andrew and Melanie, after getting passports of their own, join us on our flight across the pond to Jolly Old Eng-ger-land…
They’re both really excited to go, and we are looking forward to making this a family vacation to remember!
We arrived in London to find Mel’s bag *missing*… a quick check at the BA counter confirmed it decided to not make the flight, but was already on the next flight over. They would bring it to our hotel when it arrived.
So… off to our hotel… only to find that our rooms weren’t ready for the early check-in like I had been promised by the manager!
So… off to find some food while our rooms were being prepped! When we returned, Kathy and the kids trundled upstairs to catch a nap while I tried to sort out where our tickets for “Chicago” were… they were *supposed* to have been delivered to the hotel, but they claimed they had never rec’d them. After several calls to the ticket office, the hotel manager, etc., the hotel finally accepted the fact that they *had* been delivered, but lost.
The hotel sent a runner to get the replacement tix… *and* they threw in a free ride from the hotel to the theatre where we got to see “Chicago” from the third row! Very cool!
We had a great time, and it was a super way to start the vacation… the kids really thought it was neat to be out on London’s West End late at night with all the “in crowd”.
A quick ride on the Underground back to the hotel wrapped up our first (partial) day in England.
“Mind… the Gap.”
